Canada’s base oils and lubes output fell in January amid an ongoing slowdown in the country's supply. But production levels have begun to stabilize in a narrower range.Base oils and lube output of 40,890m³ (36,220t) in January fell by 12pc from 46,560m³ the previous month, government data showed. Output also fell from year-earlier levels for a tenth month in eleven..Canada is a key producer of premium-grade base oils. Its lower output volumes from first-half 2021 coincided with a heavy round of Group III plant maintenance work in Europe and Asia-Pacific during that period. This year’s round of plant maintenance work is lighter than last year and concentrated on the Asia-Pacific region.Even so, supply from Canada has held at the lower levels that it slipped to from early last year. While output continued to fall from year-earlier levels, it has been steadier on a month-on-month basis. Production has held close to a 41,000-48,000 m³/month range in nine of the past 12 months to January.
