ICONIC Lubricants was Brazil’s largest lubricants supplier in August for the sixth time in seven months as it boosted its share of the country's passenger car motor oil (PCMO) market.

PCMO sales were the only lubricant segment that rose in August.

The joint-venture between Ipiranga and Chevron boosted its share of Brazil’s lube market to more than 25pc of total sales in August, according to IBP.

The share was up from closer to 24pc in July and the highest in three months.

Its share rose as it boosted its PCMO sales in August from the previous month and from year-earlier levels.

Brazil’s total PCMO sales fell in August from the previous month. But they rose by 3pc from year-earlier levels.

The firm demand contrasted with a fall in sales of heavy-duty engine oils (HDEO) and industrial oils from year-earlier levels.

The slowdown cut Brazil’s total lube consumption to 85,600mᶟ (75,830t) in August, down 7pc from year-earlier levels.

ICONIC boosted its share of PCMO sales to more than 29pc of total sales in August, up almost three percentage points from the previous month.

The impact was all the greater with PCMO accounting for the largest share of Brazil’s lube market.

Vibra Energia was Brazil’s second-largest lubricants supplier in August, moving up from third place in July.

The fuels and lubricants distributor boosted its share to more than 21pc of the country’s total lube sales.

Vibra Energia’s industrial oils sales rose in August from the previous month even as Brazil’s total demand for industrial lubricants fell.

Its higher sales boosted its share of industrial oils to more than 25pc of the total, up from less than 22pc the previous month.

Lubricants producer and distributor Moove saw its share of Brazil’s lube market fall back closer to 19pc of the country’s total sales in August. Its share of more than 21pc in July had been the highest in almost two years.

Moove’s sales of HDEO rose in August from the previous month even as the country’s total HDEO sales fell. The trend was insufficient to counter lower sales of other products like PCMO and industrial oils.
